I recently got an AI 20mm/f4, and I'd like to put a filter on the front out of nervousness for the front element. I have some standard Nikon and B+W UV filters around, am I likely to get vignetting with them or will I need a "wide angle" filter for a lens that wide? Thanks.

Dave

I thinking that at 20mm a standard filter's rim thickness will not cause much of an issue. If it does, you can get "slim" filters.

I have the 20 f/2.8 AF (non-D, but that's no issue with filters) And have a standard Nikon 37C 52mm filter on it, no issues with full frame vignetting.

with a B+W PRO line filter vignetting problems on full frame can start with 20mm around f/4 (also depending on your entrance pupil / filter diameter). So I am using filters from the slim line.

i have a different lens from yours though.

you really have to try out.
