I don't know how old your kids are or their activities, but the longer reach will definitely come in handy for school performances and sporting activities. My vote is solid. Get 70-200mm f4. I plan to replace my 55-250 with 70-200 one of these days, whether it be f4 or f2.8.

my journey has come to an end!

I paid for my lens and KSM CP Filter. (~$125)

what do you guys think?!

$640 for this. 70-200 f/4 L build date of August 2011 includes the shipping and its still got 6 months left on the warranty, i get original boxes, cases, and the original receipt from adorama (for the lens) i paid the 3% to ensure the transaction wasnt shady even though the guy had 3 feedback and is pretty active on fredmiranda.com http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1119315

mainly outdoor shots of the kids at the park, playing etc, I already have the 50mm F/1.4 so I don't think that having the F4 24-105 will really be any better, plus I have the kit lens 18-135 (for now) until i can get something a bit better, it really does a good job.

having the 70-200 gives me a better reach and is perfect for outdoor use especially on super sunny days over the summer. I think it may be my carry around lens when I go to the park with the kids. I can always lug around my 50mm just in case i want to do some close up portraits since it's fairly small and light.

the kids are young :) they are only 1 and 2! but I plan on shooting lots of pictures of them and other things, mainly outdoors, nothing in studios or indoors.

Buying gear can be a tough call. Let us know how you feel about the decision after you have taken it out for a spin.

PS I am jealous of the price.

thank you!! the lens itself can be had with some haggling for under $500 (~485 is the lowest i've seen including shipping and w/o the 3% for paypal security) however this lens is less than a year old, build date of august 2011 includes all original paperwork, box, warranty card and factory warranty of about 6 months more, from the purchase date. plus I get the KSM 67mm filter which to be honest is overkill for me but honestly i'd never pick one up myself unless i got it at a steal. i'd probably spring for a cheaper hoya or canon for $10-$40 max.

Congrats. Nothing is more fun than getting a new lens, especially an "L". Well, except for.....

I think you've made the right choice and you won't regret it. Assuming the lens is in good condition with no defects.

Congrats. Have fun and post some pictures. The next thing you should buy is a real strap and get rid of that Canon strap before it wears your neck out.
