I'm still working on getting detail in my snow backgrounds, I still seem to be blowing out the backgrounds. Here are a couple of pics. I started using the sunny 16 rule. I judged this day to be overcast, because i could just barely make out my shadow, I started at f/8 and tried some bracketing. I was using fuji super HQ 100, k1000 set at 1/125, 50mm f/2.8, Circuluar Polarizing filter. I have listed the apeture sizes. When using the sunny 16 rule, how should I adjust exposure for snow?

Snow is hard to work with. Especially on overcast days. They are both crazy conditionbs for photos. It does wash out alot of the details. I am not sure what you would do on your paticular camera, but if you wanna try fixing it in photoshop I would say try burning some areas. Like in the last one, it would be very cool if we could see the tracks a little better.

what is this burning you speak of? I can get on photoshop in the fine arts lab.

I highly recommend taking notes on every picture you take, this was the only reason I remembered what the pic settings were.

I tried the burn tool idea, the detail did pp out but the pic didn't look right. If anyone wants to try thier hand at it, go a head.

If your using a dSLR shoot in raw and then use a program that allows you to adjust th exposure of your picture, you can make clouds appear out of a washed out sky and details appear in washed out snow. its a great tool.

nope, I'm shootin an old school pentax k1000 film camera. I dream of one day gettin a dSLR...

When photographing snowy scenes...I sometims will underexpose the scene...that sometimes helps bring out some detail in the snow because..its much easier working with an underexposed image, that it is with overexposure in photoshop
