Worth the upgrade?

If you will be studying photography then you should get yourself a 35mm SLR first.

I assume you're talking a film camera, in which case I disagree. The rules of exposure are the same for film and digital.

Thanks for the replies guys, yeah I think I'll go for the D700 and then start to get some more lenses.
The D80 is still a great camera but for some of my work I find myself sometimes slightly limited and the advantages of full frame and the high iso on the D700 will benefit me.
Ive just finished my exams and now Im on a gap year before uni, working (to earn money for new camera stuff :mrgreen and working on a portfolio. Hence why I'm thinking of the upgrade as when I start uni I won't be able to afford it

I don't understand. What is it that the D80 doesn't do for you?

I don't understand what your talking about. The D80 is a completely different camera than the D700 or D3.
