Would you buy the same camera again?

Yes, Because during that time the 400d was the best I could afford...

Yes, most definitely.

The main 3 things are its poor low light performance, 200 flash sync speed, and low fps. other then that, not a bad little camera
Get faster glass
1/200s is plenty
Nail it the first time, anticipate and wait, don't spray and pray.

oh, and no focus moter since most of my lenses are af
Well now, that is a *****. Unless I'm doing macro work, very slow and methodical, I can't trust my eyes anymore.

The topic asks whether he's satisfied with his purchase and would do it again...it didn't ask for other people to critique his thoughts.

While we're on the subject though...since you kindly brought it up. The D3000 is a good camera, but serves a niche market. Telling someone who's not satisfied with the low-light performance "Buy faster glass" is like telling someone who purchased a trailer-home to put in a fireplace when they complain that it's cold. The D3000 is literally one of the cheapest bodies that Nikon buys...and while I'm not saying that to rip apart the people that buy it, I'm saying it to explain that most of those people don't have thousands of dollars to throw into their photography hobby (which, if you're using a D3000, it most likely is).

As for your other arguments...1/200 usually *is* fine, but I could find thousands of photographers that would not agree. If the guy says 1/200 isn't fast enough for him...who are you to say it is? And telling him to "nail it the first time" is unhelpful advice if he's shooting some type of sports photography or quick-moving nature photography. I don't know a single professional sports photographer that doesn't use the burst mode almost exclusively while the game's actually being played. It's not because they're not good photographers...it's because split second movements by the players can make a huge difference and change the picture from the time your brain says "click" and the time the camera reacts.

If someone's not happy with their purchase...who exactly are you to tell him he should be?

I'm thoroughly happy with my current body, btw. I'd love a full-frame backup for portraiture and whatnot but I'm completely fine without it.

Well, I have a D3000 that I bought off a guy on Craigslist last December for $300.

I love it.

Would I do it again?

As they say up here in Minnesnowda.... you betcha!

Now perhaps someday I'll come to figure out it's not meeting this or that need, and then I'll look for a better body. Then I'll give the D3000 to one of my daughters.

I'm happy with my 40d, but I do lust for a nice shiny new 7d. When I bought the 40d it was a great deal and the best canon that I could afford. If I won the lottery tomorrow, there's a good chance that I'd go out and buy a Nikon D700 and a bunch of nice nikon glass.

Absolutely happy with each one from the beginning.

Nothing is perfect, and all are the right tool for the right job.

Yes I would. I really like my Nikon D300s. Even though I hanker after a full frame from time to time.

Yes. And by then I wuold hope to know how to use it too.

I would totally buy the same camera again. In fact, I probably will by the same camera again soon to use as a back-up.

Maybe it doesn't count though, since it's ...*film*...lol. (EOS 1N RS)

I think it's still a pretty good camera, even by today's standards, though.

The only possible downside I can even think of is high ISO (I admit that digital beats film here) - but I rarely use high ISO, even digitally - so that's a moot point for me.

I guess some people would also consider the fact that it's not digital a downside too...

Yup. I did a ton of research before I bought my T2i and in fact I will soon be in the market for a second one as backup.

And that's after having had the chance to use a 7D for a couple days, I still prefer my T2i. And the 5D Mark II isn't up to snuff on my video needs.

If I were going to buy a new still camera today, I'd probably want the 5Dm2 for it's full frame and better low-light performance. But I'm happy to wait and see what Canon does to upgrade the 5Dm2.

Digital bodies that include 4 EF mount, 3 M-mount, 1 K-mount, 2 m4/3rds, and 4 point and shoots, not once did I have regret over a purchase. Seller's remorse.... well... that's a different story.

I'm interested in that, too. I'm hoping it doesn't make me want to, or cost enough to make me sell both my 7Ds to get it.

I'm happy overall with my camera. At the time, it was the best I could afford. But sometimes I do wish I had saved up a little more and got a d90. Do not regret my purchase though.

like someone stated before, i love my D300s. But i wish I waited to pick up a refurbished D700.
