1. Good shot with interesting perspective and focal choice. Like it.
2. nothing in this shot strikes me as being in focus. Composition is good but the flag is a bit cliche to a non american like me
3. Looks as though he's holding the cap of the person in the background. Don't think it works since there is no connection between the model and the background person. Good idea to use the model like that though.
4. Fingers cropped at the top and with the kids faces peeking out from behind it looks a bit distracting.
5. Good composition but again nothing seems to be in focus
6. Nice use of lighting but again focus seems to be lacking.
For the above shots in the museum where focus is a bit soft i suspect there may be some camera shake too due to low interior light.
7. Times square - i took a shot of that exact post (i think) when i was there in November. I focussed on the "Times Square" sign and had the building much more out of focus. You don't say what camera you used but if it's a compact then a shallow DOF will always be a problem. You also don't seem to have anything of interest in focus here too - the sharpest area seems to be the brackets securing the cables.
Good efforts that with some minor changes could be really good. You don't say what your level of experience is but if you're just starting then you're on the right road!
your pictures are pretty good, but I feel like your composition is a little off on some of them. number 2 i like the best, but i think I wold have liked it a bit more if the picture showed more height.
