    Another Newbie Shot - Guinness

For some reason I like the colors in this photo (and the subject matter!) But the wine glass is out of place, it should at least have had some wine in it. C & C welcome.

Just looks like a snap shot to me. IDK maybe I'm missing something.

Yes, good point, you are correct. Thanks for the comment.....as strange as it sounds, I am learning with every post. I was hoping maybe it could be cropped some interesting way or something. But like you said, it is just a snap shot.

    Thanks Again.

Good beer, no doubt, but the photo as it is being presented looks more messy than anything what with the leftover food on the plate on the left and more on the plate behind the glasses, the used wine glass, the dropped napkins ... all quite "ugh", I think. A wide open aperture and consequent narrow DOF with blurred background alone does not yet lift a photo above the mere snapshot, I'm afraid.

Try next time when the food first arrives and prior to eating then get a really shallow dof with the beer and one of the meals.

Thanks everybody....so the love of Guinness isn't enough to make a good photo! LOL.

I sort of knew it was a dud, the suggestions given are all very appreciated. It gets my mind thinking and working for future photos.

I may keep the Guinness theme for future photos, just because I need a topic to practice on....and I can drink while doing it.

I saw an interesting photo composition technique I like. take your photo. allright, now get the camera physically closer and take it again. if you can still get closer, repeat until you can't.

this suffers from being a snapshot from your seat. it has horrible items around for your composition

focus more on angles and framing. a simple idea is to set your camera on the table. it's cliche but better. being at a table full of plates isn't killer, the implementation is.
