Have snapped up some old 35mm camera and parts. There's a 20 ft air release that I don't know if it works or not. The bulb doesn't push anything at the pin end weather screwed into the camera or not. It's a Black's brand and seems to fit a Canon AE 1 (fastened on the shutter release button). Am I doing something wrong ... (it looks to be in okay shape, but not functioning)? Should the pin activate when the bulb is pressed when the release is not connected or should it only function when connected?

Yes, squeeze bulb and you should see the pin pop out the other end.
Sounds like there is a kink in the hose, unravel it and look ... otherwise there may be something jamming the pin.
