Atlantic Puffin - Elliston, Newfoundland, Canada

Yesterday I sorted 9,000 images from my recent trip to Newfoundland, Canada. ( Daunting task it was) I hope to be posting more images as I edit them.

Each year 2600 Puffins come to breed in Elliston, Newfoundland. I was there in earlier this month photographing the first arrivals for four days. They have difficulty becoming airborne and flap their wings at an amazing 300 to 400 beats per minute to maintain flight. Puffins are poor fliers they have trouble landing and often crash onto the sea or tumble onto the grass.

Great shot! He looks concerned about his upcoming landing!

Very nice! They are like "gooney birds" of Midway Islands( in flight characteristics only). Unfortunately I have no photos.

He does look like he is dreading the next part! :biglaugh:
Wonderful photo, I can't wait for the rest of them! :)

thanks, He should have something to worry about. They are not graceful on the landing!
