Crop by taking away what isn't contributing to the composition.
As much as possible, this should be done in the camera so you can retain the detail for what you need.
There needs to be some balance and some 'tension' between elements in the composition and it should focus on something.
Then worry about exposure and depth of field.
Separate names with a comma.
