Cooper's Hawk is unfazed by my presence

Had a bit of a side quest today while out and about. Spotted this Cooper's Hawk in a tree as I was leaving a small park. It looked right at me more than a few times but was completely unbothered by my presence, even after I got out of the car to take more pics of it.

Taken with my Canon Rebel XSi w/ Canon EF 73-300mm lens. I'm noticing a lot of purple and green fringing when I have it all the way out to 300mm. Might be time to pick up that Tamron 18-400mm or the 200-400mm I've been looking at.

Nice catch! Yes, that kit lens does that, unfortunately. I've really liked the Tamron, it has a good range of focal lengths, and is not very heavy.
 
Great spotting on the hawk. The first is my favorite
