I think #1 would benefit from a tighter crop putting her in the far right corner.

They both seem a little soft to me...and this is a personal preference but I like when photos with water are color...after all isn't that what the ocean & water is about?

Both were shot with the canon 50mm 1.8

The apature on the first one was about 4 and the second one I think was around 2.8 or maybe just a little higher.

I agree with the tighter crop! a tad too much headroom for my taste. but thats just me.
