    I went for a walk around a local pond and came up on a what I think is a red shouldered hawk. I was able to get about 30 feet from him. Unfortunately all I was the 28-85, so I had to crop them like crazy.

    He was snacking on a canada goose.

    I love hawks! they are so elusive (unless you have tasty carrion handy...)

    There was a vulture, too, but he stayed well off while the hawk was there.

    I "shot" this beauty in a tree in the backyard. They appear to thrive in urban areas with pockets of habitat.

    I also saw what we believe was a Perigrine Falcon munching on a Blue Jay.

    I can tell when they are about when other birds in the area are agitated.
