New here - portable studio advice?

Hi -I am near Memphis -been taking pictures for years, pro and amateur. I'm less technical and more arty. I want to be able to take a studio with me on my road trips, for local portraits and the like. Any basic, cheap start-up ideas, like lights, backdrops, etc.? Even make-shift ideas are welcome.
