Nikon D3000 off camera Speedlight SHUTTER LAG

Hi lightlifters - anyone know why my Nikon D3000 develops a 2/3 second shutter lag when I attach a speedlight to the hotshoe.... There is no lag when I trigger the speedlight remotely via transmitter / receiver setup... Really need to fix this asap... got a wedding on Saturday!!!!

No probs folks - figured it out! The on camera flash setting had the RED-EYE activated! Swith it to normal or rear sync - problem solved!!! PHEW!!
