Lull before the storm yesterday (ten days till finals week and end of the semester) so my wife and I decided to relax and go for a drive. We headed south down the river and determined to follow "whatever" which came along in the form of a brown sign pointing to "The Dunklin Grave Site." We wound up in Herculaneum MO. and discovered that Daniel Dunklin was the 5th Governor of Missouri -- things you always wanted to know.
Seems Governor Dunklin retired to Herculaneum where one day he got caught outdoors in a bad storm, caught pneumonia and died. He's got a nice spot on the bluff overlooking the Mississippi.
Real nice view too. The photo below was taken from the same spot as above -- all I did was turn around and face the other way.
