Please choose and critique!

I like the third one best. It would've been cooler if you got down and and stood in the water, to get a better angle, and then there wouldn't be as much in the background.
 
Of the two photos you posted without the twig, I like the first. Maybe bump up the saturation to bring out the color as it's fairly flat. You also might add some contrast.

The second would be equally good if there were something in the bottom to balance the image, but it's just empty space. Is it possible to get some of the shoreline in that shot?

I've set up my tripod in the water many times. One time I had to wade through chest-deep water to get where I wanted to be. I was worried about slipping and taking my camera with me into the water!

I have tripped in the water before, but luckily my camera bag kept the majority of the water out of my camera. The base got a tad wet, but nothing too serious.
