"Portraits" w/ New Camera

When I'm at a gathering, I like to take candid "portraits." Here are two I took on Christmas Day with my new (and first) digital camera. Comments are welcome.

Hmmm... I like those, nice poses, no shadows... fairly sharp. They look like a nice couple.

I prefer the 2nd. I dont think candid portraits work unless the subject has a strange/ unusual expression or if they're doing something interesting or in an odd place. Also It makes the eyes more of a focus point if they're looking at the camera. I think this is why I prefer the 2nd,because he's looking towards you, its more interesting.
