So I got a new toy in the mail a few days ago...a little 52mm reversal ring. (At least that's what the seller called it...I'd call it a teleconverter.) It's just a little black ring that goes between the body and the lens.

Well I'm using this as a cheap alternative to buying a macro lens. Here's what I took with it:

There's nothing wrong with reversal rings, they will never give the quality of a real macro lens of course, but until you can afford one they are a good inexpensive alternative.
You have to experiment a bit with them and your lens combination to get exposure and depth of field right as everything is done manually.
They work better with fixed focal length lens because of the bigger aperture usually available with a prime lens than with zooms, but with a good tripod you should get acceptable results with what you have now.

And these photos do demonstrate what can be achieved with this set up, although to my mind they are underexposed, but maybe that was deliberate..
Anyway for the rest they are not bad at all.
