hey I think it stopped. you guys think taking photos like this is bad for photography skills because they are kind of "generic" and not really art, or good for someone to be doing?

No. It's called practice. Or having fun.
If it's not fun, then don't do it.

Of course, if you intend these kinds of shots to be practice, it might be good to have some kind of goal in mind - even when you're shooting for fun. Basic composition and exposure should be second nature. If not, then always thinking about it will help - at least it can't hurt. Beyond that, we all want every shot we take to be worth looking at - even if we are the only ones looking at them.

IMO, the only thing bad for photography skills is not picking up your camera.

well, I lost power. Have it back now.
 
We got lots and lots of... nada. A couple of flakes. That's it. I'm not complaining - we got one outdoors project finished, and were able to start another. According to the local forecasters, we might get somewhat more over the weekend.

For all you folks on the east coast, thank you for not sharing. :D
