Taking my first shots, C&C welcome

First let me say I am totally new to photography but since my wife bought me a Nikon D5000 as a present I thought I would see what I can do with it.

I liked the first shot, the other ones don't look that interesting. The last one lacks exposure I think. (a comment from a very amateur photographer :er

1. Good composition. Good colors. Bug is a little soft, but that can be sharpened.
2. Good use of natural framing.
3. Off centered. Very nice.
4. My least favorite. A lil dark and not popping like your others.

You know why a wife would buy her husband a camera right? So that he can take pictures of her. I'm serious. Ask your wife if she wants to do a portrait shoot.

Sorry my wife is one that hates to have her picture taken. Heck we have been married 19 years and have only had pics taken together twice.
