My wife and I live in a heavily wooded area in NC and we found this spider in our yard today. It was about 1 inch long. Neither of us have seen one like it before and we haven't been able to identify it although we have a number of field guides. It seemed out of place. It was just moving around in a small area and kept changing directions like it didn't know where to go. Maybe someone here can help us identify it.

We are thinking it might be some kind of trap door spider, because we are pretty familiar with the spiders around here that are normally seen outside and because it seem so confused about where it was.

OK, so it was a trapdoor spider. Thanks for the info.
