  • Just acquired a Canon Rebel EOS T100. Still learning all the bells and whistles. Going well except I cannot figure out what the "main dial" does. The owners manual is no help. It just says this is the "main dial". Can someone help me out, please?

Hi Frank! On the three Canon's I've owned, the main dial controls the speed by default. I think it can be programmed to do other things, but by default it is the shutter speed. Hope that helps!

Thanks. But that is confusing. If it is default, why dial? I've already turned it, did that mess up the shutter speed?

No, it just changes it depending on the mode you are in. The LCD screen should show you what your speed is. That said, if you are using the camera in P or A+ mode, I'm not sure what that wheel does. I use manual mode on my cameras almost exclusively, so for me changing the shutter speed on the fly is very handy. Play around with the camera and see what it does.
You're from The Colony? I live here, too. Small world.

Small world indeed! I spend a lot of time on my days off walking the Shoreline trail with my camera, especially between Scout Park and Ridgepointe Park, when it isn't raining, which seems to do every day right now. :D
