This quote from the article struck me as so bizarre as to be hysterically funny: Police are also investigating reports that the suspect took photographs of the animals before the attacks.
(What, for a scrapbook or something?)

Sheep I have known?

Reminds me of one of the many bizarre stories from my College days.
There were three very attractive girls in the Graphics department who used to kick around with us and occasionally model.
One Summer they went to stay at the country house of an Aunt of one of them.
It was a hot day, the garden was secluded and the house was in the middle of the countryside so they stripped off and sunbathed nude.
After a while they noticed a stranger peeping over the hedge at them so they called the Aunt who called the police.
The police turned up and dutifully searched for the peeping Tom to caution him.
They found him half-a-mile down the road giving a sheep one.
The girls were very upset because they thought it was their fault.
They actually thought that seeing their naked loveliness had got the poor man so excited that he'd had to resort to bestiality to calm himself down
