360 degrees around an object - looking for equipment ideas

I would like to guide my camera around a subject, while the subject stays in the center so I am effectively taking photos from 360 degrees around the subject. I was thinking of making a large circle guide, and then using some sort of wheel device under my tripod to follow that guide. Maybe I can makeshift the circle guide, but even then I am not sure of which materials to use. Any ideas?

Have you considered spinning the object instead? It's probably much much easier.

The hard part is going to be to keep the camera aimed at some notional center-point.

What are you trying to take pictures of? A sense of scale would be helpful

My thoughts exactly. You could place the object on a lazy susan and keep the camera stationary on a tripod.

But then again the OP does not say what kind of an object they are trying to photograph, and that info is EXTREMELY important when trying to help you find the best solution. For example the approach would be VARY different for a toy car then it would be a statue.

Find a stable turntable. Attach a tripod mount bolt to the center of it. Cut a hole in a piece of fabric (or cardboard, plywood wood, etc.) and put it around the bolt. Place your tripod on carpet and use the spikes built into the feet.

Put your camera in manual and leave the lights the same for every shot. Rotate the camera a set number of degrees and take a picture. Repeat.

That's how I would do it.
