Wow! What a great shot! Beautiful light, and a gorgeous subject! I think, if i had room in the original I might try and level him out a bit though. Im sure he was standing on a hill or something and naturally oriented that way but since he is so prominent, I would probably give it a go!

Great shot regardless though!

Very nice.
I am not knocking your (and others) when I ask this but...how much sharpening is going on in some of these crystal clear photos?
I just don't seem to get many crisp shots like this!
What camera/lens/ exposure/ tripod ?
Thanks, Nancy

Nancy, I do very little PP sharpening. I am shooting a D810 with a 80-400 4/5.6 combined with a 1.4 tele-extender. this was shot at F/8 ISO 800, 1/500th. I was set up so that if he bolted, I could still get a nice crisp shot - of course unless he decided I'd look good attached to his antlers. I had a substantial, easy to climb tree between him and me. After all, the rut is just beginning and these guys can be pretty unpredictable when the hormones are raging.

Nice ... just very nice. As a nit ... the bokeh is a bit distracting ... you might want to blur the background a tad

Agreed to the Bokeh. This lens is great on bokeh until you add the 1.4 extender. There always seems to have to be a trade off somewhere.

You might want to add a layer and sharpen the buck separate from the background ... once the buck is separated from the background it's no problem to add some blur to it.

Easier to just do a sharp refine edge and separate that way. I'll probably do it tomorrow when my brain is less mushy. Been a long day. :-)

or just pull the clarity slider back; imho, I think it's too strong on the buck itself as well.
