#1: Zanti misfit... That's all I will say.

#2: The wings' the thing! Not sure the DOF works for me, maybe more or less but not this particular spot(?) - very minor issue. Maybe slight blow-out of whites around the upper body(?), actually this gives a kind of "halo" effect. Great idea about the backlighting on this one, it worked really well. Background shading both contrasts with (upper left) and compliments (lower right), I like that! Like the lighting of the "sword", the right edge is lit at the top but the left edge is lit at bottom, neat. Like the upside down "V" formed by the sword and body of the critter and centered 1/3rd in from right. Sword directs the eye to head of critter - that sword is absolutely essential to this shot! Terrific, uncluttered, composition.
