The tree looked dead, but the flower was beautiful.

The title quotes Mehitabel, and old alley cat who would still go catting around at night, and come home with a big smile on her face and a piece of ear missing. She would proudly announce to her pal, Archie (a cockroach and writer,) "There's a dance in the old dame yet, Archie!"
The author of Archie and Mehitabel is Don Marquis. Fond but fading memories, so it is time to reread!

Beautiful photo of a beautiful flower and love the story too

Great story to go with the photo. It's a beautiful flower. What type is the tree?
My guess is it is a hibiscus. By the way, Archie, being a cockroach, doesn’t have the weight to depress the shift key on his typewriter, so he writs in all lowercase! Don Marquis was a delightful storyteller.

My memory has indeed faded. Mehitabel actually said, “There’s a dance in the old DAME yet!”
I’ve corrected the error in earlier posts.
