A Glass of Wine And a Cigar

It looks a bit flat to me. I'd brighten up the background and make it a bit more contrasty. Something like this (this took 30 seconds. so is not my best work!):

The seamless paper background doesn't do much to help this photo; a more realistic placement would make the photo have more life. An end table, or a bar top, would make a better location for the wine and cigar. The wine also looks pretty dark and lifeless. It would benefit from a light aimed right at the glass, and a small, crescent-shaped piece of foil or white paper taped to the back side of the glass,out of sight of the camera.

Why is there no color? There really should be, otherwise it just looks like a Halloween prop. Unless it's really a glass full of Blavod Vodka, which then it would be acceptable, because it actually is a black liquid.

I really wanted to shoot this on a dark wood surface but couldn't find anything proper.

Tyler: The reason this is colorless is because the wine isn't actually wine at all

Aaaah, I see. That makes more sense now. There are creative ways to colorize sections of photographs in photoshop. I'm willing to bet with a little effort you could make it look just like a glass of Shiraz.
