A little hi-key - did it work?

It feels a little wrong to me, in some way I cannot put my finger on.

It feels too "cold" for the light to be that bright. I see light like that, I am am thinking a hot day in spain, a hot day in greece, but it's not feeling like a hot day to me, and the light feels wrong to be one of those extremely bright cool days.

I don't know why it feels like this to me, it could be simply that the trees aren't palm trees or some similarly stupid thing that I "want" to see in this.

The composition is nice, but a little sterile.

It also feels a little oversharpened, to me. The foliage in the trees feels like it's beginning to get that feeling where the leaves have been eaten away too far by the unsharp mask, and they look wrong. Just starting to feel that way. Which, again, could just be the species of tree that I am not familiar with for all I know!

It feels wrong to me too, and I don't know what it is, I guess I screwed up the hi-key conversion somewhere along the way.

The trees are a bit weird, they have spines for leaves, like a pine tree I suppose.
Looking again, at the original vs the conversion, I have pulled too much from the shadows I think?

ps. anyone is more than welcome to have a go at hi-key BW with this - cos I couldn't quite manage it, I would love to see it done well.

Huh, yeah, it could just be that the shadows of the trees across the road are too dense, relative to the shadows cast on the buildings? It's something very subtle, I think! I'm glad it's not just me seeing it, too.

Some images convert to B&W end up looking so much different and I think this might be one of these images.
