Nice set, looks like you've been doing this for awhile. #1 for me. Quick question: in macro photography, does it help/increase the dof if you use a smaller aper. like it does with regular picture taking or is everything just shallow dof no matter what?

You really need a smaller aperture f13 is what I normally use. Weirdly the Canon macro setting is about f5.6 IIRC and it looks awful if you use it for insects. When I have time I will do some test shots to show you this is interesting though.

If you have a tripod put your camera on the tripod and use different settings to see what looks best.

Thank you all for the kind remarks, with ants it is a question of just having them in the right place, they were under something I had to move in the allotment and when I saw them running I grabbed my camera.
