The second shot has a sort of "1970's B&W documentary" look to it. I like that one a lot. The cowboy's arm reaching out. The bull caught in mid-air, at an angle. The press box with its local advertising. The two rodeo hands manning the chute or gate...just a really cool split-second in time. NICELY DONE!

The third looks like there's gonna be one heck of a hard landing in about 2/10 second! Nice timing on that shot. I'm not really a fan of the first shot. Night-time rodeo...looks like a VERY challenging subject to me.

It was defiantly a bit out of my comfort zone, but all in all it was a lot of fun. Thank you for the kind words!

Was that the American Royal rodeo?

I just shot a PRCA rodeo in Poway, it was fun but the make or break is the right lenses and shooting angle.

I like those last two!

Shooting the barrels has to be my favorite by far, it's awesome because you can anticipate the action and plan accordingly.

This was actually in Ashland, a little town in middle Missouri, at The Cattlemen Days Rodeo. The barrels were defiantly the most fun. You really feel like you're nailing every frame on play back.

I shot with a Sigma 28mm F1.8 and EF 50mm F1.4 and they seemed to do the job pretty well. During the bull riding portion (portion? I'm not sure I have my rodeo vernacular down yet. Heat? possibly?) I did find myself wanting something a bit longer, but all in all I was happy with the results.

Love 2 & 3. 1 bugs me because the rider's back is to me, despite it being a nice action shot.
I wish I had more of an opportunity to shoot horses (with a camera ).

That first shot is really good. It does not matter to me at all that the rider's back is facing the viewer. The action of the horse and rider, the horse's tail flying, the dirt flying, the long shadow running along the bottom that almost seems to tear the photo into two pieces, and finally, the best part are the three lights that are simply just blowing out all over the place. This is messy, gritty, and the composition is just about perfect. Great stuff.

Each of these photos tell I story, especially the top one. I love that! The one tough thing about event photography is catching that key moment. You caught some very good moments, but the middle seems one the edge, like something big (hand straight up, epic photo) was about to happen. Regardless, I like them, I would show them.
