A sweet little summer PEACH =)

I tried shooting in anything other than COMPLETE MANUAL to improve my exposures aty least for now. Here are a few of my youngest enjoying a summer peach outside. Not great...but I'm really trying....I also ran some filters through some to give it a specific mood.

I shot in P mode in these, selected my ISO and AF points, I also shot in auto focus mode not AF-C OR AF-S. I think the shutter speed that the camera calculated for number one, although worse when posted here, was too slow or something. =(

yeah, I liked the warmer colors too...I was a little nervous because it is obviousely not true skin color, but warmer is a lot of the times, pleasant. Thanks!! =) I had fun playing...

Af-a mode - is that what you used?? All that does is let the camera choose af-s or af-c.

I think you'll be happy using some of the semi-auto modes. It will let you concentrate more on focus and composition instead of worrying about changing your settings everytime your kids move to a different area! I've never used program before but I do use aperture priority fairly often when shooting my kid. Makes life much easier

. Have you played around with auto ISO at all? From what I've read it works pretty good on Nikons. You can use it in manual mode and it turns manual into a semi-auto mode. You can set a minimum shutter speed and a maximum ISO. So if you set your aperture at f/4 and you don't want a shutter speed slower then 1/200 the camera will automatically adjust your ISO so your shutter speed won't drop. You may like it or you may not - just another option to try.

I was playing around with different looks. I have seen some people apply high contrast/warm filers/ etc and liked the look although not true to form. If I post an original, you are welcome to do a pp and show me a better pp.

These are very stretched out, I have a photo with a lot of motion blur that I shouldn't have even posted but in some ways I gave the camera a lot of control in these and still, there is so much blur.

I think you need to gain a better understanding of how the camera's shutter speed affects the image based on subject and camera/lens motion.

Well, you're not faking bokeh anymore at least.

Shoot in shutter speed priority when shooting kids. You can't just put faith in P mode. The tiny microchip inside the camera doesn't know you're shooting moving children. But you do. None of these pictures turned out that great, sorry to say. They have significant noise issues and color banding, with too slow a shutter speed. I wouldn't bother with creative filters until you can produce a good base to start with.

Keep trying. Try shooting in TV with auto ISO, maybe that will give you the limited control you are seeking.

PLEASE tell me if I'm wrong but obviousely faster shutter speeds, where the shutter is open for shorter amounts of time, lets less light in but is also ideal with faster moving subjects because it enables it to freeze the subject. for most moving subjects anything slower tha 1/200 might result in motion blur. I almost never shoot slower than this but I was actually trying something that was given to me as advised.

Don't be sorry!! I appreciate the honesty and I'm not too thrilled with them either....which is kind of why I posted them. I want to learn and correct my mistakes. It's a learning process but it's fun because I enjoy it..........I am going to shoot shutter priroity for a while i think and if i have to, just raise my ISO to enable me to use a smaller aperture value if I need more DOF. Thanks, btw......
