The over sized condoms I mean the polythene wrappwers are wrapped around the portion just above the bark which was cut for collecting latex (rubber) to avoid contamination with insects.....

I think this photo is from kerala. We wrap this thing not only as insect barrier but mainly to prevent water drops gets collected in those latex collecting small pots during those rainy seasons.
