Photos NOT OK to edit
i'm about to purchase a D800e system:
with 24-70 f2.8 lens/SB910 flash/vertical grip/extra battery/ and flash sync cord.
i am an artist who works in contemporary art.
i've been using film for years.
i work primarily in photography and video.
my work is project based. i've been shooting with Canon G series cameras for a few years on one project.
i only own a Nikon F5.
i hv a mint Nikkor 70 - 200 f2.8.
i'm overcome with indecision now.
i don't NEED the camera but it is my 50th birthday gift. and i see it as a major investment for my career and my future.
i hv been offered $6500. CAD tax incl + 5 yr warranty for the body (which includes water accidents) for the whole package.
i'm an artist that works in contemporary art.
i don't hv a pro DSLR camera for stills and video.
because of my age, i fell in the gap between analog and digital.
i know so little about digital workflow and post, but i will continue to learn about digital imaging/darkroom.
i've often paid for tutoring or i hv someone do the necessary work for me.
i want to make a website and approach the commercial market(s).

i hv a top-of-the line NEC monitor and a wireless (medium) Wacom tablet.

will my current system be able to handle editing the large RAW files from the D800?
i'm familiar with Lightroom and have Adobe Create Suite 5. i only have this laptop:

Model Name: MacBook Pro (with Thunderbolt port and matte screen)

Processor Name: Intel Core i7
Processor Speed: 2.2 GHz
Number of Processors: 1
Total Number of Cores: 4
L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB
L3 Cache: 6 MB
Memory: 8 GB

Why have you made another thread?

From an D800e user
yes your system will handle the files... I have been using that exact same setup here at the moment in the Philippines with no issue, but you will eventually need a separate drive or 3 to store them on as it will fill up fast

D800, either normal or E, or any camera at that level is pretty demanding to shoot and you really need some strong post-processing skills to make your way with it successfully.

That being said, I have no clue if the 6500 price is decent. I suggest you price it out on a reputable site like B&H before you commit.

If you are serious about video, the D5200 or D7100 might be better than the D800E. I use a D800E for video, with a Mosaic Engineering filter, recording the uncompressed HDMI at 100 MB/s (ie 1 GB in 10 seconds). The quality is excellent.
