Hey, I'm new here. You probably guessed that.
I'm also not a photographer. Before you escort me to the door, though, hear me out.
My brother is an amateur sports photographer. His interests are primarily in the extreme sports field - he shoots skiers, boarders of any kind, bikers, etc, though he doesn't do much with water sports. His birthday is coming up soon and I'd like to get him some camera gear - however, since I'm not a photographer, I'm stuck as to where to go or what to get him.
He uses a Sony a230 (no live view) and already has a fisheye lens and an 18-55 mm lens. He's been at it a little over a year.
What I'd like to know is what kind of gear he'd find useful for his work. The ideas I've gathered from some photographer friends thus far have been to go with lenses, flashes, etc, given that he's already got bags and tripods and such. I'm a college student, so I don't have a whole lot of money to work with (I'd like to keep it under $50 if possible, so I can actually afford shipping). Does anyone have any suggestions for me on lenses, flashes, filters, or anything else he might appreciate? He's still learning, so it doesn't have to be super fancy.
If I haven't been specific enough, ask any questions you have, and I'll answer as best I can. Any knowledge you have of which online sellers to go with would also be very appreciated.
