Adapter Question

For the past few days, I've been using a hand crafted adapter made out of a body cap and a broken minolta zoom lens, but I'm worried as to long term damage to my most prized possession (my camera). I've decided I don't really want to chance it so I'll just spend the $10-$40 and buy a legit adapter. My question here is, do I want an adapter that has glass so it effectively creates a new rear element? Or should I go for a cheaper, non glass alternative. Thanks again for your help.

If you get an adapter that does not have glass, the lens won't focus at infinity. The reason is that the adapter causes the lens to be farther away from the camera (and thus the film plane/sensor) than it was designed for.

The adapter with a lens element will correct for this, and act as a slight teleconverter. However, the problem with these adapters, is that your image quality will be subject to the quality of the adapter.

Agree with Big Mike. You have to chose which is the lesser evil to you. As for me I think "Tis better not to use an adapter."
