Adapter that will boost aperture and make lens wider......

Saw this on another photosite and thought I would share it here. This thing actually exists and reviews say that it actually works pretty good. Price is pretty steep at $600, but its first generation right now. So far only E-mount or EF mount but article did state that FX version was coming soon. Sadly no mention of a a-mount version as of yet. You need full frame lenses too.

But overall a really awesome adaptor.

There is actually a SECOND TPF thread on this adapter--in addition to the one linked to above. This week, Roger C at Lenbsrentals.com did some tests with a Metabones adapter and a few lenses...the doggone thing actually DOES BOOST MTF (buuuuuuut it also caused increased astigmatism, and it seemed like one corner was quite wonky), and it DOES INCREASE effective aperture...all pretty trippy!!!!!!!!

Yeah, I saw that review too. Pretty decent results for a first generation product.

We've used these in astronomer for years. It's called a focal reducer. But as Derrel says, when you reduce the field, you sometimes get distortions out at the edges of the field. There are combination focal reducer / field-flatteners BUT... these tend to be specifically made for the telescope model (the lens). I've never seen a generic focal reducer & field flattener that improves "any" scope.
