Advice: Essentials for a Pan Asia Bike Trip?

Later this year I’ll be biking across Asia to raise funds. I plan to take many photos. If people in the know where going to give advice, what would suggested for taking photos of landscapes, person’s faces, and street corners on a pan Asia bike journey?

So, I guess nothing at all is needed. Well here's what I have so far!!

A DSLR Canon EOS Rebel XS
A **** lens for the 80's
A 234RC Monopod Head Quick Release (needed something strong, durable and cheapish)
A Manfrotto 3001N Basic Tripod without Head


Wish list
50mm f1.4, but will probably end up with f1.8 lens
a flash again in super budget mode (SUPER) and am leaning towards this flash Bell & Howell Z480AF-C Camera Flash for Canon
