Got bored at home last Wednesday and went for a drive. Ended up here and hoped the pool had some water in it, there was no wind. Pool was empty. Paid attention to the ISO and stopped it down for one shot to brighten it up. All the shots were hand held. Still not to comfortable with setting up a tripod for pics out in public. It was roughly 7:30pm when the shots were taken.

Wow! 57 views and either i did it all right...or no one has anything to say! Cool!

Not too shabby, however the tilt of image 1 is very unnatural, not something I particularly enjoy seeing in a landscape. Must be to your liking since you included it, to each his own.

I agree with the tilt on #1. I wasn't overly happy with the tilt on #2 either. I appreciate the feed back too, Thanks.

#1 Rotated slightly to get it straight

I wasn't so much being lazy by not rotating it, I just wanted a critique on the image as I had taken it. Appreciate the reply, agreed, better when its straight.

In #2, you cut off the top of the spire...better framing in #3.

This is the perfect situation for using a tripod. Not only will it hold the camera still, allowing you to use and shutter speed & ISO that you want, but it helps you to take your time and thing about your composition. When shooting hand held, people tend to just 'point & shoot', without carefully considering their composition...and that's how you end up with shots that cut off the tops of things, while leaving too much space at the bottom.

I'd suggest getting over your fear of tripods. ;)

I like number 1 and 4 - nothing against 2 and 3, but there's something about lit up trees I just like.. I guess 1 is better straight technically but I liked how it was at an angle, sort of gave me the feeling I was running on the track and about to take the corner, if that makes sense.

happy shooting

Big Mike, Thanks, I never actually noticed I had cut the spire off! I agree about the tripods, I will make more of an effort to use the ones I have.

RedBaron, Thanks, the trees appealed to me for some reason and it's not something that you see often when looking at pictures. #1 is going sown hill and around a corner, but I took it vertically and wasn't paying attention to the horizontal plane when I snapped it. I was more concerned about to much light being in it.

Thanks guys, I'll be getting better, sooner than later.

Happy Thanksgiving! Family gathering today, camera and tripod going as well!!! I have to try my new 50mm 1.8 today. Convince Mrs SFK that it was worth it! :D
