Although these 'albinoids' are supposedly uncommon compared to the total number of buffalo these are relatively common along the River Ou in northern Laos. This is probably the river buffalo type as they like to actually get in the water and relax. They are neither aggressive nor shy just seemingly aloof and will walk away as a large, strangely pale foreigner gets close.
Our boat had made a pee stop and the buffalo seemed slightly affronted but then decided that accommodation was more in the Lao tradition and moved away. Note the pullover and hat; although Laos is the tropics, the mornings on the river at this altitude are quite brisk.
