almost made contact with mirror..

..well it wasnt really thaat close..

but as i was about to attach my lens i accidentally brushed up against a bag with the hand that was holding the camera.. im pretty sure it didnt contact the mirror or any internals.. but how bad would it be if something did come in contact with the mirror, sensor, etc..? assuming it didnt break, how would i know if it needed to be cleaned?

If your pictures are dirty, then you have to clean the sensor.

Touching the mirror isn't a problem, you can clean that by hand.

The sensor on the other hand, if you touch that, you can have problems.

The mirror mechanism is easy to damage. It's all made of very light weight parts. You need to be very mindful of what is going on when changing a lens.

Behind the mirror is the shutter curtains. They are very light and thin and are even easier to damage.

Behind the shutter curtains is the image sensor, and the image sensor has a few filters in front of it. So, the image sensor would be the least of my worries.
