Alpha deer

Alpha male all right. Wouldn't want to get in his way during the mating season. :biggrin-93:

That's a lot of bull, and that's no bull.

Come now, he's more afraid of you than you are of him!!!:biggrin-93:

Have you ever encountered one during rutting season when he is trying to defend his "harem" from all outsiders, regardless of how many legs they may have? With a rack that size (6 or 7 points), there is very little he is afraid of during that time of year.

I believe that this is a red deer, one of the largest deers and generally, the male is typically 175 to 250 cm (69 to 98 in) long and weighs 160 to 240 kg (350 to 530 lb.) with height at the shoulder of about 95 to 130 cm (37 to 51 in). Somehow, I don't think a mating male red deer about 6 to 8 feet long, standing 3 to 4 feet at the shoulder and weighing up to 500 pounds if going to be afraid of me (or you). :biggrin-93:

But think about how great that close up would be, right before he hits you!!!:biglaugh::biglaugh::biglaugh:

I had a 12 pointer last week get more than a little pissed that I was between him and a doe he was following. Two hoof digs and three grunts told me it was time to vacate the area and I did rather quickly. He never even wavered an inch as he took off after the doe, the area I had been occupying a full four foot plant on one of his bounding thrusts...I'm with Western Guy on where their fear level lies in full rut.

They don't seem as scary when they are in the freezer.

Yup, would be great shot, but think where you might be afterwards :biggrinangelA:, because they just don't hit you once, they will turn around and come at you again and again as long as you are still moving. The only satisfaction your relatives will have is that he won't eat you, like a bear might. At least that way they will have a recognizable body to bury. :biggrin-93: :biggrin-93: :biggrin-93:

Out of curiosity jaomul, were you laying on the ground while taking this shot? Love the low angle, at the same time can't help but wonder how far away you were :aiwebs_016:

Hi Raj_55555, I was low but not lying down. The deer was on his stomach, very slightly higher than me, I was about 50 meters away at a guess
