american coot.

thanks... that is the first young coot i have came across, at fist i thought it was a grebe or some sort, i wonder if the young ones still have humungus feet lol..

they do... by the time they're as old as this one, they're almost adults, and their feet are about the same size. i spent a couple of months watching the progress of a baby coot this summer, from bald-headed, orange-fringed little clown to about the age of this one. it's fun to watch them grow and become more and more independent... here are some of the shots i got this summer.

its ugly and cute at the same time lol... great shots of baby and parent.
