This is taken from the same walk. Exif data:

ISO-200
1/80th sec
f/9
taken with 18-55mm IS kit lens at 55 mm

and here you see the icicles, at least some of it. I did crop a little, much silly nonsense in this original picture. Just for you to see the placement in the fence. There's a little camera shake in this one, I think I used 1/30th sec.

Thank you for watching :) Please comment and come with suggestions :)

If you could balance the first shot differently i think it would be more impactful. I think you have chosen wrong for the main point of the photo.

Good point. I quite agree, it's too heavy on the left side.

edit: added cropped version in portrait:

Yea i liked the cropped too :) nice. Now im puzzled by the second one on the middle part of the icicle. It almost looks photoshopped. are these directly from your camera it looks like that part has been sharpened?

Thanks!

yup, went a little over board sharpening that second one. I'm not looking for serious C&C on that, though :) Still, good to take with me. It's easy going to far sharpening, we all want as much detail in the shots :-P

edit: what I have done is picking a warmer WB in elements 9 (shade, 7500K), done some rotating, cropping, curves and sharpening.

Maybe a little less sharpening on the icicle and i would like that pic better than the first. I like the framing of it and the sunset is just visible enough. But still nice.

??

The icicle in isolation works best for me; but i liked the first one because in the edited vesion it is very big and close; but only in comparison; actually i loved both of them

Regards :D

Gorgeous! Love the colors you captured!

I like the editited version a little better what are you using to edit? Try a slot use of the dodge tool and maybe soften it up a little bit ? Just to make it less abrasive to the eyes. Thats what keeps drawing me to it.

Prefer the second one massively more than the first
