Another RAW original versus RAW edit for C&C

How's this? I think perhaps it's still too flat, should I lighten the right (stage left) part of the face a bit more?
Original is no pp except convert to b&W (portrait preset) in PS Elements 9. Ohh, both cropped.

I second that. When you go back to try out another edit, make an effort to be more precise when brightening up the subject's face and head. The halo was the first thing I noticed when I looked at the current edit.

I liked the original the best. I like the face the way it is. If anything, I'd edit the background.

She has a strange expression on her face that i can't seem to get over. Her tongue is poking out, it's kind of weird. Also +1 about the halo, its pretty distracting.

I never thought about making a halo effect when dodging the face. Great feedback, here. Is it the edit that's messed up, or does the image itself work?

As for the weird expression, that's what I wanted to capture. Not having them pose, and try and get those things most people don't really notice, as it's over in a flash. Kinda candid, perhaps. Just sneaking up on siblings in the living room and shooting them

That's not what I meant.
I meant that the color image should be perfected as much as possible before you do the conversion.
Right now it looks like she has major facial skin discolorations that will show up more as the BW is fiddled with; these should be minimized before conversion.

Ahh, so that's how it works. I didn't know, that. But it makes perfect sense, taking the RAW possibilities to its fullest extent before converting.

Btw, minimizing skin flaws wasn't my concern here, I'm not really fond of it when.
