Another urgent camera choosing -FAST!!!

Looking to buy a second camera to join my Nikon D7000, to suppliment it when we go to small trips or family gathering and I dont feel like carrying the big DSLR with me or for my wife to use it while I play with my D7000.

So I want a non DSLR body with best pictures and movies recording in good and low light situations.

Basically best bang for the buck, point and shoot or mirrorless is probably what I am looking for.

Price range is in the 500$

Tomorrow I am going to get the camera so your replies would be greatly appreciated if they are posted soon.

I know there are better, but honestly I like the Nikon 9300 pns. It really does a good job and has many cool features on it. I have sold many, and customers come back to print the shots they take and they look great. I've never taken it out of the shop, but I show people how to use it, and I just kinda like it. We carry many Canon and Nikon pns'ers, for some reason I just like it. It's in the low 300 price range.

If you want to splurge...grab a Canon G12. Badass camera right around your price range, a bit under. I know many pros who use the G11/G12 when they go somewhere they can't carry their dSLR.

Cerrently I have the Canon G10 and it is not very impressed with its low light capabilities.
Do you still recommend the G11/12 ?
In my price range is the G15 but I am not running to get it because of my disapointment from my G10

Nikon V1 with 10-30mm Nikon zoom lens, $299 on clearance most everywhere in the USA. Target, Best Buy, Costco. Originally $899. Perhaps available in Canada at the same huge markdown???

If you are spending around $500 I would not make an impulse buy ....spend an hour or two and look on the internet for reviews that suit you to me the Nikon V1 is a hobby/mommy camera...sorry Derrel ... and owning Nikon since 1964 I would not buy it.... but that is just me

Hi goodguy - in Canada, your best value for money may be the Nikon 1 V1 for $405.53CDN at amazon.ca. Later, instead of buying new lenses for it, you can buy an FT-1 adapter and use your existing Nikkors.

If you can stretch your budget by $99 - the $599CDN Samsung NX1000 with wi-fi is a great new mirrorless camera, it is small and fits in a pocket or purse - but it has the same size sensor as your D7000, and includes an external flash (where the Nikon 1's flash costs extra). You can also adapt your Nikkors to the Samsung - but they will become purely manual lenses when adapted.

It is $499US from Adorama - and they ship internationally. If you do it that way, you may be able to beat the Amazon Canada price.

I think you got unlucky with the g10, and if I recall correctly much of what was wrong with g10 was corrected in g11

I'm not a fan of the N1, we don't carry them anymore, had a couple and they sat around forever. either they have not caught on yet or they suck. I don't know. I demo'd one of them and just didn't really care for it.

The G10 was a bad camera indeed, Canon raised the MP on it to make the uneducated people get it and I was such a person.

Its poor low light performance was an issue in all the reviews I read (sadly after I was already stuck with it).
As long as there is good strong light this camera works like a champ.


As for the Nikon 1 J1 I read a lot about it and it is getting a lot of mixed reviews, most are saying best to wait for the next Nikon mirrorless generation.


Any more ideas guys ?

Any good Sony's' Fuji or Panasonic ?
I didnt research into these cameras and is open to hear about them.

Edit: If I am in the position of getting a point and shoot type camera, I think I will go with the G15.

- RAW shooting
- Hot shoe flash capable
- 28-140mm (35mm equivalent)

Well I got the G15, I hope this one will not be a disapointment as its older sister was.
From all reviews and you guys this look like a sweet camera so I believe it will be a good camera.

I have not held a G15 in my hands, so I can't say...only what I've read and I don't trust reads. I've "heard" it's awesome, but it's just hearsay.

Since you got it, you can give us a review on it.
