It feels ridiculous to even ask this after all these years...but here goes:
I understand the effect the shape of the aperture has on lens flares...But does it in fact affect -more- than just that?
Consider an 8mm camera that has a 5-sided aperture that creates the usual five side lens flares in photographs. Can the shape of the aperture ever make the light source itself take on a 5-sided outline? I realize that lens flares are caused by pointing the camera too far toward a very bright source or even catching the light source in the frame, and the lens flares are the result of internal reflections -inside- the camera lens. But is there any possible way that the shape of the aperture could somehow cause the light source to appear as 5-sided when it's caught in the image.
I'd appreciate any expert opinions on this. (..man, I must be getting old :/ )
