I cannot tell you the species ... but it's a leaf "unrolling". If I remember my biology correctly, plant leaves have the same number of cells when small and at maturity ... the cells just get larger. Many plants, in particular ferns tend to unroll into maturity. This stage of growth/immaturity is called a fiddle's head.
