I would like to suggest a gallery for displaying fine art photography. I think it would be a fitting addition to the current selection of galleries. Thanks!

What would be the defining points of fine art photography, and how does it differ from the existing galleries?

Because the other galleries aren't FINE art. Just regular ass art. DUH!

I was thinking a gallery dedicated to photography that is more on the "artsy" side....photos that are a little less than literal...something like that? Abstract would of course be included in this. You know....less pictures of flowers...more shapes and texture...that sort of stuff. Valid suggestion?

An abstract section has been suggested in the past and would be the more likely of the two to get put into place if it were to be enabled. I think the term "fine art" is just far to debatable as to what it means (esp in terms of photography) and that adding it would just spread confusion and result in endless "is this "really" 'fine' art or just regular art" debates.

I know art and fine art are semi-synonymous .... you guys know what I mean. ART photography? Nobody know what that is? I guess it could be included as part of other galleries...but would be best by itself. Just a suggestion.

We already have an Abstract thread.... a Fine Art thread would be redundant unless we specify no Abstracts..,

Ok....I guess I missed it. Thanks cgipson

But, fine art photography includes people, and landscapes, and nature, and flowers, and cityscapes, and HDR, and B&W, and, and, and.....

Fine art photography refers to photographs that are created to fulfill the creative vision of the artist. Fine art photography stands in contrast to photojournalism and commercial photography. Photojournalism provides visual support for stories, mainly in the print media. Fine art photography is created primarily as an expression of the artist’s vision, but has also been important in advancing certain causes. The work of Ansel Adams in Yosemite and Yellowstone provides an example. Adams is one of the most widely recognized fine art photographers of the 20th century, and was an avid promoter of conservation. While his primary focus was on photography as art, his work raised public awareness of the beauty of the Sierra Nevada and helped to build political support for their protection.

Agreed...but I think a distinction could be drawn between a photo of people..and an artistic photo of people. In my opinion...most product and wedding shots definitely lack the artistic flare.

For example...the shots you posted yesterday I thought were awesome...would be more on the artsy side. That would be the macro dhots

Most of the people posting are trying to achieve that level of quality with their work, and they are posting to learn, for the most part. That's what the critique section (galleries) is/are for. Further subdivision will become, as Overread said, even more confusing.

Gotcha...just a suggestion. Thx for the feedback.

What about "Impressionistic photography", like what Eva Polak does and TPF's own Mishele does with the flowers?
